The Hand that Carves...
I’m from Southborough, MA, and I’ve been a pottery hobbyist for the past ten years. I have a degree in art and have always loved to draw. Charcoal has long been my favorite medium, as I’m fascinated by the vivid contrast of black and white and how light and shadow can bring a surface to life.
I was thrilled to discover the sgraffito technique, which allowed me to bring drawing into my pottery. Now, I see every pot as a canvas — combining form, texture, and line to create pieces that are both functional and expressive.
The Art of the Carve
Each piece is thoughtfully wheel-thrown and carefully finished before being hand-decorated.
Layers of underglaze are applied to create an image or to prepare the surface for carving.
Sgraffito is the process of carefully carving away the underglaze by hand to reveal detailed imagery, texture, and design, turning each piece into a unique work of art.
